‣The Expatriate Amplification Project is a sultry sonic map, stretching across the jazz, soul, urban, pop and neofunk genres. Poet and composer, Lenelle Moïse, created fourteen songs with two loop machines, experimenting with vocal percussion, rolling trills, mouth-made clicks, high-pitched squeaks, melody, harmony and breath. Moïse’s smoky contralto joins forces with Karla Mosley’s winged soprano to sing playfully poly-rhythmic, entrancing, sensual and politically-conscious music. Originally written for Moïse’s critically-acclaimed Off-Broadway play Expatriate, the lyrics explore themes of homeland, love, sexual tension, addiction, survival, flight and freedom. The Expatriate Amplification Project is a distinct and dynamic offering of bluesy ballads, scorching torch songs and shoulder-pumping, heartbeat-driven duets. ‣In Madivinez, Haitian-American poet Lenelle Moïse fuses spoken word, scat, storytelling & song for an intimate, fiery & elegant exploration of language, culture, sexuality & freedom. Lush, spirited vocals deliver politicized internal rhymes in this rousing, must-hear debut from a powerhouse performer.
